Farbfeld 103 belongs to Farbfeld (Colour Field), the series of works on paper that Silvia Bächli began in 2022 on sheets of

102 x 72 cm, in which gouache is laid down as a field of colour whose density moves between translucency and opacity. Two

vertical fields share the sheet, a green built from broad overlapping strokes and a grey-brown in which the diluted pigment

gathers into darker veins, the two meeting along a narrow strip of paper where each colour keeps its own edge.

The strokes begin and end within the sheet, leaving the paper exposed along the upper and lower margins, so that each field

retains the direction and rhythm of the movement that produced it. Colour operates here as surface and as duration at once, the consistency of the gouache registering the speed, pressure and repetition of the gesture, and carrying into colour the

attention to the body in motion that runs through Bächli’s drawing.
