Patricia Fernández Carcedo: Box (a proposition for ten years), 2012–2022

Once a year since 2013, Box (a proposition for ten years), created for Commonwealth and Council, has been exhibited together with its contents—repurposed fragments, writings, drawings, paintings, and sculptural elements—as they accumulate, transform, and expand. Through this time-based sculpture, Fernández establishes a relationship with the space by proposing a personalised system of exchange. With each exhibition, Fernández expands the box’s “contents,” which spill beyond its physical space. The box itself has become a more conceptual than physical container: an annual ritual, an exercise in archival practice, and a continuously growing index of a relationship.

In its eighth year, Box (a proposition for ten years) was digitally archived by the Los Angeles Contemporary Archive (LACA).
