Néstor Sanmiguel Diest: Días de niebla

22 November 2024 - 15 February 2025 MAISTERRA
Exhibition text
Días de niebla (Days of Fog) features approximately 30 works produced between 1999 and 2024. The core of the exhibition is marked by the use, initially experimental, of the line as both a formal and conceptual element; by painting straight lines with a minimum distance between them on flat forms, Sanmiguel Diest achieves an effect similar to that of the velatura technique used in Baroque and Renaissance painting, generating the sensation of vibration on flat images. That is, through repetition, colors and shapes acquire rhythm, not only visually but also referring to musical structures frequently used by the artist. In this sense, the word “fog” refers mainly to the illusory depth and movement generated paradoxically by precise patterns and uniform surfaces.
