"Reality surpasses even the wildest of fictions. I'm endlessly fascinated by the outlandishly strange creatures we all are: humans. Every aspect of our being—psychological, social, political, and animal—fascinates me, and I can't stop wondering about the next layer beneath what we outwardly present. [...] An idea. It's not much, but it's also a lot if it has to be great. From there, the tools are just that: tools. And the fewer the choices, the greater the freedom."

Daniel Jacoby (Lima, 1985) is a visual artist and filmmaker whose practice explores the human condition—addressing themes of belonging, solitude, desire, and spirituality—through deliberately tangential perspectives. His work features characters, settings, and narratives that resist conventional classification. By frequently employing abstraction, Jacoby develops subjective explorations where documentary and fiction, as well as the intimate and the structural, function as deeply interconnected categories.

 

His films have received awards at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (The Netherlands), Videoex Zurich (Switzerland), Filmadrid (Spain), and Lima Independiente (Peru). His work has been screened at prestigious venues and festivals, including MoMA Doc Fortnight (United States), Sheffield Doc/Fest (United Kingdom), Les Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin (France/Germany), e-flux Screening Room (United States), EMAF (Germany), Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen (Germany), and Jeonju IFF (South Korea). Additionally, his exhibition history includes projects at the Fundació Joan Miró (Barcelona, Spain), Palais de Tokyo (Paris, France), EYE Filmmuseum (Amsterdam, The Netherlands), Delfina Foundation (London, United Kingdom), and Casino Luxembourg (Luxembourg). He lives and works in Amsterdam.
